What is the difference between a podiatrist and a chiropodist?.

This is a question that I’m frequently asked by my clients. A Podiatrist is a qualified healthcare professional that is devoted to the study, treatment and management of disorders of the foot and lower limb. The titles “Podiatrist” and “chiropodist” are interchangeable; however the term Podiatrist is being more frequently used nowadays and promoted within the medical profession.

A Podiatrist or Chiropodist is a medical healthcare professional trained to diagnose, treat and manage a wide range of foot and lower leg complaints. A Podiatrist studies a three year degree course in Podiatric medicine and once qualified is awarded a BSc degree in Podiatry.

All Podiatrists are required to be registered with the Health and Care Professions council (HCPC ) and to be members of the College of Podiatry (COP)

To ensure your Podiatrist is registered and for your own peace of mind you can go online and check the HCPC register. All Podiatrists on the HCPC register are fully qualified. To check look for the HCPC logo opposite.
